About

“Can it be sin to know?”

—Paradise Lost

A PEN Award-winning historian and popular voice of esoteric ideas takes a serious and sympathetic look at the “dark side.”

Is your spiritual search stalled? What if individuals have different affinities for different deities, just as we speak of different forms of chemistry or sympathy among people? Who is your deity? It is time to strip away preconceptions, misunderstandings, and historical shibboleths to take a fresh look at the literary, cultural, and metaphysical force that came to be called Satan.

Mitch sweeps away misconceptions and prejudices, peers anew into ancient myths, canonical literature, and popular legends, and considers whether and how the searching, thinking individual can have a relationship with what is commonly—and inadequately—regarded as the dark side.

Join us for a challenging, eye-opening, and intellectually serious evening that you will never forget. You will come away with an entirely new conception of a “familiar devil”—and perhaps a new conception of yourself and your highest potentials.

Mitch Horowitz

MITCH HOROWITZ was raised in a world of Bigfoot stories, UFO sightings, and Carlos Castaneda books. He grew determined to find the truth behind it all—and today Mitch is a PEN Award-winning historian and the author of books including Occult America; One Simple Idea: How Positive Thinking Reshaped Modern Life; and Mind As Builder: The Positive-Mind Metaphysics of Edgar Cayce. Mitch has written on everything from the war on witches to the secret life of Ronald Reagan for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Salon, Time.com, and Politico. The Washington Post says Mitch “treats esoteric ideas and movements with an even-handed intellectual studiousness that is too often lost in today’s raised-voice discussions.” He is the voice of audio books including Raven, the “definitive account of the Jonestown massacre” (Rolling Stone), which is now in production as an HBO miniseries. Mitch has discussed alternative spirituality on CBS Sunday Morning, Dateline NBC, CNN, and throughout the national media. He hosts the New Thought Channel series One Simple Idea.
